Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration
The image in the top left hand corner of the screen is from our
Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration. It was made and distributed to all parishioners in
May 2003 to celebrate 50000 hours of Adoration.
The beautiful chapel is open seven days a week, 24 hours per day and is truly a sacred place
of healing and peace.
The Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel at the Good Shepherd Church was launched on the
13th May 2000 on the double feast of Our Lady of The Blessed Sacrament and The Feast of Our
Lady of Fatima AND on the eve of our Parish Feast of the Good Shepherd.
All of this came about after viewing two video's belonging to Villa Maria, showing five
parishes in Durban which have successfully run 24-hour PEA for up to three years.
The parish priests in each case reporting "never feeling so safe" and a drastic reduction
in violence, crime and marital problems. People were coming back to church and even the
youth were responding! After the excitement generated by this video, Father David was
approached who after due consideration decided to go ahead with PEA at Good Shepherd parish.
He was convinced that PEA is the answer to all our community's ill and addictions. After
promoting PEA at every opportunity for four weeks the Good Shepherd parish was ready to launch.
Desmond and Patricia Brougham-Cook scraped and decorated the classroom while Father David
busied himself with furniture shopping. Lyn and Evelien managed everything, including
preparing rosters and admin. They spent many hours organising the 168 adorers and
24 co-ordinators. Ray and Maureen Lopes drove to Durban to meet with Moira Gillmore from
the Wentworth parish PEA. To quote them "What an experience, the presence of Jesus in that
Chapel was so powerful." We thank Moira for her much appreciated advice and for motivational
material she supplied.
Many parishes tentatively approach PEA with a view to 12 hour adoration. The surprising
news, however, after analysis of the register, proves that guardians of the late night
and early morning are so reliable and deeply responsible. They have come to truly
appreciate the pure joy of being alone in the presence of God. They are free to prostrate
themselves at His feet or sing quiet praises to Him.
The testimonies, both verbal and those written into the book of blessings in the Chapel,
give witness to the little bit of Heaven here in Bothasig, where all our prayers are heard
and answered. Praise God!
